Summer 2022 is in full swing and it’s time to celebrate what’s hot in fashion. Here’s our roundup of the summer’s biggest fashion trends.
Y2K is Back
It’s time to get out your lip gloss and butterfly hair clips as early 2000s style was celebrated by a variety of designers during the summer 2022 runway season. Micro or mini skirts were featured at Miu Miu’s summer show while Victoria Beckham and Stella McCartney presented crop tops reminiscent of ‘The Simple Life.’ Other popular trends included denim butterfly tops, and wide-legged jeans or trousers. What we’re most excited about? Von Dutch Hats – the iconic trucker hat made famous by Brittney Spears is back.
Tip: Did you know you can bring your trucker hat or baseball hat to the dry cleaners? We’ve found awesome results with removing common stains like sweat and dirt.
Cut It Out!
In theme with Y2K, ‘less is more’ as incorporated into the majority of summer collections. Fashion publication F-trend reported that over 10% of shows in the 2022 season included cut-outs. Strategic cut outs were seen on dresses and tops in Stella McCartney’s show. Versace’s designs embraced its roots with designs showing lots of skin.
Tip: When washing garments with cut outs, consider using a mesh bag and on a delicate cycle. Garments with cut outs are delicate and can pull or snag on other items in a wash cycle. If you’re too afraid to clean your item at home, seek the assistance of a professional.
Bridgerton? It’s In.
We all fell in love with Lady Whistledown this year. Between a steamy season one, and an romantic season two, Bridgerton has captivated audiences for both its plot lines and costume design. Dubbed as ‘regency core’ or regency-inspired clothing, empire waist dresses, puffy sleeves, and even pearled jewelry is making a comeback! Brands like Love Shack Fancy and Brock Collection have made ruffles, lace, and floral patterns part of their signature designs.
Tip: Exposing your hats and delicate fascinators to high temperatures can ruin their shape and color, store them in a cool and dry place.
Join the Track Team
Spandex cycle shorts, once functional, are now fashion. Becoming an outfit staple to models like Kendal Jenner and Hailey Beiber, biker shorts and varsity-inspired pieces are popular this summer. Luxury brands like Versace and Tory Burch have cool and colourful ‘track jackets’ in current collections. Sportswear companies like Adidas and Nike have created designs that are more casual too. Why not fake it ‘til you make it and sport a varsity look with some white sneakers and straw clutch.
Tip: Varsity leather jackets or jackets with suede arms always need to be treated by a specialist. At-home clean methods risk damaging garments long term.
