The Gibson's Difference
A family owned business driven by quality
Gibson’s is not a high-volume cleaner or a franchise model. We are a fourth-generation, family-owned business shaped by decades of hands-on garment care, evolving technology, and an unwavering commitment to quality.
- Family-owned and operated since 1929
- Awarded Best Dry Cleaner in Canada
- Trusted by luxury brands and discerning clients across the GTA
1929 – The Beginning
Gibson’s first-ever location was on Davenport road, a dye house for dyeing textiles, including the uniforms for soldiers in WW2. Founded by Joseph Gibson, the Moose on the roof of our Dundas location is named after him as a homage to Joe!
The 1960s
Tom Hopkins began working alongside Joseph Gibson and eventually purchased the business, making his final payment in the 1980s. To commemorate that milestone, Tom had a shirt sewn to represent the “final cheque” – symbolizing the shirt off his back that made it possible.
The 1980s
Rob McConnell joined his father in law Tom in the 1980s, overseeing Gibson’s Uniform Rental division and growing the retail side of Gibson’s. Gibson’s became involved in ApparelMaster and several other leading industry groups.
2000s
Rui Valente, current VP, joined Gibson’s to lead the uniform division, eventuating to a sale in 2016 to CINTAS. Gibson’s dry cleaning side opened more locations and expanded its pick up and delivery services to serve more clients. It was also one of the first to switch to GreenEarth cleaning and sustainable cleaning products.
Today
Gibson’s built a state-of-the-art plant with modern Italian systems, barcoded tracking, and mobile booking. Fourth-generation leader Linley McConnell joined during this era. Today, Gibson’s is a Canada Goose Authorized Dry Cleaner, recommended by Moose Knuckles Canada, and continues expanding its retail and pickup and delivery footprint.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long has Gibson’s Cleaners been in business?
Gibson’s Cleaners was founded in 1929 and has remained family-owned for over 90 years. Today, the business is led by the fourth generation, combining heritage craftsmanship with modern garment care technology.
Is Gibson’s still family owned?
Yes. Gibson’s is proudly fourth-generation, family owned and operated. Unlike franchise or volume-based cleaners, our leadership is directly involved in maintaining quality, process, and standards.
What makes Gibson’s different from other dry cleaners?
Our difference lies in how we approach garment care. Every item is individually assessed, we use multiple professional cleaning systems, invest in advanced Italian equipment, and prioritize long-term garment preservation over shortcuts or volume.
Why does experience matter in dry cleaning?
Garment care is highly technical. Fabric type, dyes, construction, trims, and wear all affect how an item should be cleaned. Decades of hands-on experience allow our technicians to make the right decisions for each garment, reducing risk and extending lifespan.
How has Gibson’s evolved over the years?
While our values remain the same, our tools and systems have advanced significantly. We’ve adopted modern Italian dry-cleaning machines, barcoded garment tracking, mobile booking, and eco-friendly processes to improve accuracy, transparency, and sustainability.
Does Gibson’s work with luxury or designer brands?
Yes. Gibson’s is one of only two authorized Canada Goose cleaners in Ontario and is trusted by luxury and designer brands for specialized garment care, precision handling, and consistent results.
